We are back from an incredibly fast, fun-filled "girls only" trip to New York City! What an awesome time we had! We arrived Tuesday night, January 27th and came home late Thursday evening. Did we jam pack those two days with entertainment? You betcha! Did we master the subway system? NO! But thanks to the super nice New Yorkers, we made it to our destinations eventually... The first day there the weather was horrible! RAIN, RAIN, RAIN! We bundled up and braved the subways and arrived in Times Square somehow. My mom and I took the girls to the M&M factory, Hersheys store, the biggest Toys R Us they've ever seen and then to lunch at Applebee's before our matinee showing of WICKED! After Wicked, we strolled Times Square until the girl's feet couldn't do any more and went back to our hotel where we !rested! and tried to find a fun place to eat by the hotel....McDonalds was all we found, Sigh! At least Anela and Kanani didn't mind!(to view the pictures up close, just click on the collage)
The whole purpose of this trip was to fulfill Anela's Christmas wish to see Wicked and it was definitely the highlight of the whole trip! The cast was incredible! I think I could watch that over and over and never tire of it. Grandma bought the girls Wicked t-shirts and The Grimmerie book that tells everything about the musical. She sure did spoil us this entire trip! Thanks Mom and Grandma!
The last day in New York was a beautiful, FREEZING, sunny day so we walked down 5th avenue until we came to The American Girl Doll store. Anela and Kanani had both brought their dolls with them for this sole purpose. We probably spent a good three hours here! The girls (that would be all of us)were in heaven! I had made reservations at the Cafe upstairs for lunch and what a marvelous time that was! There were seats especially for the dolls along with a tea cup and saucer for them as well. It was such a fancy feast! I told my mom that she would never have thought to experience New York this way if it weren't for having a 10 and 8 year old with us. It was so much fun!
For the rest of the day before we had to leave we visited the Empire State Building and Ground Zero. Going there brings back such an ache in my heart, but Grandma and I thought it was highly important for Anela and Kanani to see it. It represented such tragedy and also such unity. The whole world felt that day and will never forget it.
This was such a memorable trip for us...great times! Thank you Grandma for coming with us and for ALL you did for us! We will never forget this! We are looking forward to going on similar "girl trips" with sisters and their daughters as they get older!
I can't forget to thank my sweet husband who watched our boys while we were away! I came home to a squeaky clean house, all the trim work was finished with the floor and the girl's room, we had a new TV and he had built a shelf to go above it, and he had given Alaka'i a hair cut! What an incredible man I am married to! His reward for all of this was throwing out his back the day before we came home! I've got a lot of massaging ahead of me, but my heavens, he deserves it! Thank you my sweet!

Whitney is so completely jealous. She keeps trying to make me promise we will go this spring. It looks like you had a blast.
I LOVE Wicked!
I have seen it twice here in Chicago. I am kind of sad they are ending it here!
For Anela and Kanani, this has got to be the trip of a lifetime.... Spending girl time in New York. How do you top this next Christmas!!!
