A proud moment for our family came when Anela was selected as one of the "Vikings of the Quarter" at her middle school this week. It is the highest award given to the students. The process involves being elected by your math teacher who then gives Anela an application to fill out. It must be signed and approved by all of her teachers agreeing that Anela is worthy of such an honor. She must have good grades along with great citizenship in her classes with minimal absences and tardies, if any. She also has to write a paragraph or two on why she thinks she deserves this award as well. The application is then turned in and if she is selected, which she was, then the school notifies the parents, which they did! There were about 100 students who were nominated, but only 14 were selected.
It was kept as a surprise from Anela until they had their special assembly announcing the winners. Tuesday morning, we woke up the family as usual at 6:30 to read scriptures (all in our pj's so Anela wouldn't suspect a thing), then sent Anela out the door at 6:50 am. The assembly at her school was to be at 7:30 am! We then threw our clothes on, crammed breakfast down our throats, and rushed to Anela's school. Whew, totally made with a few minutes to spare! Boy, did her face light up when she saw us there sitting in the auditorium. (it's kinda a dead give-away when your family is there) The other fun thing was her friend, Conner Grimes, also was chosen as a winner. Super proud parents, we were!! Afterwards, the winners and their families were taken to the library for refreshments. What a great way to start our day. We are so grateful for Anela and her efforts in all that she does. She is such a great example to her younger siblings. Love you girl!
